Concerns about quality of care at Western State Hospital have prompted lawmakers at the state House to call for greater oversight on state hospitals overall. Ruth Johnson reports from Olympia.
Johnson: At issue: accusations lodged against the state's largest psychiatric hospital–black marks that highlight not only problems with patient care but with safety.
Rodne: “Recent quality issues that have threatened the licensure of Western State Hospital demand and require that the Legislature exert more oversight authority. This is a necessary step.”
Johnson: Representative Jay Rodne is calling for a task force to look at on-going concerns. Legislation he co-sponsored would also create a fund–monies earmarked for operations at state hospitals. The bipartisan bill passed unanimously.
