Maple Valley youth pages for Rep. Jay Rodne in state House of Representatives
Daniel Cook spent a week in Olympia as a page in the state House of Representatives Feb. 21-25. Cook, 14, was sponsored by Rep. Jay Rodne. The 9th grade student at Tahoma Junior High School is the son of Kimberly and Mark Cook of Maple Valley.
Cook attended page school each day to learn about the legislative process. As part of his duties, he distributed documents and notes to lawmakers and staff on the House floor, as well as around the Capitol campus. He also sponsored mock legislation.
“I really enjoyed sponsoring Daniel as a page and feel he learned a lot in his week in Olympia,” said Rodne, R-North Bend. “I appreciate Daniel's efforts and encourage other students to pursue the program. It's a great way to see how their citizen Legislature works.”
Students between the ages of 14 and 16 who are interested in becoming a page must have parental permission, acceptable grades and a legislative sponsor. To learn more about the House Page Program, visit: http://www.leg.wa.gov/House/Pages/HousePageProgram.aspx.
