LOCAL GOVERNMENT EXPERIENCE:
Jay served as an elected member of the Snoqualmie City Council and was chosen to serve as chair of its Public Safety Committee (2001-2004).

LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES:
Jay’s legislative priorities include: restoring fiscal responsibility and accountability to Olympia; investing in our children’s futures by building a world-class public education system; reducing traffic congestion and improving safety by making smart investments in our transportation system; and fostering economic stability and prosperity by creating and preserving jobs in our region.

MILITARY SERVICE:
In addition to his role as an attorney, father, and state representative, Jay has served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve for the past 26 years. He holds the rank of colonel and completed a two-year tour as the commanding officer of a 1,200-Marine reserve battalion headquartered at Fort Lewis 2007-09. As a Major and second in command of reserve Marine battalion from 2001-03, Jay and his unit were activated and deployed overseas to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

While on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1989 to 1993, Jay served as a platoon commander in charge of 42 Marines during the 1991 Persian Gulf War and as a company executive officer, second in command of 200 Marines, in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope from 1992 to 1993. He has received decorations for service in all campaigns.
